Lykke (loo-kah): Danish for happiness

Hi! Welcome to The Lykke Charm. My name is Ilana and I’m an American who has been living in Copenhagen, Denmark since 2018. I have always loved reading blogs and getting recommendations from them on all things lifestyle: where to shop, eat, and travel; recipes to try at home; beauty and wellness ideas, and the list goes on. When I moved to Denmark, I realized that the blogs I have always loved were not as useful to me anymore, since many of the places and products they recommended were not available in Denmark (or even the EU). I had trouble finding the kinds of blogs I wanted to read here in Denmark, and kept wishing there was somewhere on the internet that I could go for all of my questions, big and small. Eventually I thought, if I’m looking for this kind of resource, maybe others are, too. So I decided to create it!

A little more about me:

• Before moving to Denmark, I had spent about half of my life in Texas (Austin and Dallas). I have also lived in northern California and Nashville, Tennessee.
• I live in Copenhagen with my Danish husband, and our son Noah, who was born in May 2021.
• I am a primary school teacher, and I teach at an international school here (my dream job!!). But I am taking the 2021-2022 school year off as my maternity leave (thank you, Denmark!!)!
• I have a massive sweet tooth and love baking. My husband can’t eat gluten (unfortunately for both of us), so I experiment with gluten-free recipes a lot.
• I’m also a big fan of yoga, podcasts, all cheesy foods, Taylor Swift, and traveling.
