Five Favorite Things: May/June 2022

Welp, I forgot to post my favorite things for May, and now it’s already July. So I guess it’s a bimonthly series…! Here’s what I’ve been loving and using on repeat in May and June.

CHILL: Jysk picnic blanket

We have a balcony that, historically, we almost never use. We have a table and some blankets, but it always felt silly to invest in nicer stuff for the balcony since it’s such a small portion of the year that we actually want to spend time out their anyway. And then when that nice weather comes around, we don’t use the balcony because we haven’t invested in making it a nice space to hang out. Soooo… bummer. This year I gave up on the normal table and chairs setup and bought a picnic blanket from Jysk. It fits perfectly on our balcony, and putting the blanket down makes it feel a bit cozier than just sitting on the wood floor. We’ve already used our balcony more this year than we have in past years! The picnic blanket makes it a nice little play area for Noah, or a cozy spot to hang out if we add some pillows and blankets, too. Highly recommend the picnic vibe if you struggle with whether or not to invest in your outdoor space, haha!

MAKEUP: Rare Beauty Positive Light tinted moisturizer

You may be able to tell from looking at me that I am not a heavy makeup gal. I prefer a lightweight tinted moisturizer for everyday. I heard about the Rare Beauty tinted moisturizer from TikTok (where else?) and was not disappointed when I tried it myself! I’ve been using it for a couple months now and it’s definitely my new go-to. It’s super lightweight, makes my skin look glowy and even (I prefer more matte than dewey, and this is matte enough while still leaving my skin looking bright), but still shows my freckles. I use the shade 22W for reference!

PODCAST: Maintenance Phase

If you are into health and wellness (or ever have been) but also realize it’s an extremely scam-y industry, you will LOOOOOVE Maintenance Phase. The hosts, Michael and Aubrey, basically take turns debunking health and wellness trends, fads, etc. Some of my favorite episodes have been: Fat Camps, Rachel Hollis, The President’s Physical Fitness Test, Halo Top Ice Cream, and The Wellness to QAnon Pipeline. It’s educational, the hosts are hilarious, and it’s extremely satisfying to hear why the topics they cover are… total BS, in most cases. I drop everything to listen to new episodes when they come out.

BABY: Done By Deer water bottle

I got this water bottle for Noah because my friend Chelsea had it for her son and raved about it. And I love it, too!! It has a straw (ideal, IMO) and the lid just slides open and shut over the straw (no separate cap to keep track of and very easy for Noah to operate). We send it to day care with Noah every day and throw it in the dishwasher at night. So far it’s holding up great and isn’t leaky or anything.

WEAR: Birkenstocks

I’m embarrassed by how long it took me to get on the Birkenstock train. I used to wear a lot of cute sandals. In the US. When I drove everywhere. Those sandals don’t hold up to my lifestyle in Denmark. Birkenstocks are everywhereeeee here, and I finally bit the bullet and got a pair last year. I have these and love them (yes, they’re basic. I’m basic). I think I want to go ahead and get another pair now! But which ones? (The only downside of Birks is that, of course, we don’t get a whole lot of sandal weather in Denmark. But don’t worry… #socksandstocks is most definitely a thing.)
