Prenatal massage at Nimb (review)
I am not ashamed to admit that I started thinking about “babymoon” possibilities pretty early on in my pregnancy. If you’re not familiar with the term, a babymoon usually refers to a little vacation that the parents-to-be take before the baby comes–a last hurrah as a couple, if you will. Totally unnecessary, but definitely fun, right? I was especially excited about the prospect of a babymoon because our summer 2020 travel plans had been canceled due to Covid, and I was kind of desperate for any kind of holiday by the time fall/winter rolled around. Unfortunately, we started another round of lockdown in December, but we booked a spa weekend in early April, hoping Denmark would be open again by then. Of course, the lockdown restrictions ended up being lifted the Monday after the weekend we had planned. So… that was canceled. (We planned on going here and would love to try it another time!)
So, hopes of a babymoon were pretty much dashed at that point. But I was also well into my third trimester and starting to feel the physical effects of carrying a full baby around in my belly all the time. I figured at the very least, I could treat myself to a massage in the city!!
I have always felt that if I’m going to get a massage, I might as well go all out. I want the full spa experience to be luxurious and relaxing. I want to be spoiled for a couple hours. (And I usually get massages once or twice a year, so it’s only an occasional splurge.) So to that end, I booked a pregnancy massage (graviditetsmassage) at Nimb Wellness. This is the spa at the Nimb Hotel, which is connected to Tivoli and has a reputation for being ~fancy AF.~
To adhere to current Covid guidelines, I got tested before my appointment and wore a mask until I was in the treatment area. The staff all wore masks at all times and there was hardly anyone else there; the only other person I saw that wasn’t an employee was a hotel guest at the gym, which is also part of the wellness center. This might be because I was there at midday on a Friday, but I did appreciate that there weren’t many people around.
When I checked in, the receptionist showed me to the changing area, which was beautiful and super clean. Once I was in my robe, I went to the lounge, where there was a selection of drinks and snacks. The receptionist brought me a warm towel for my hands and the massage therapist came in and had me choose my oil for the massage.
The massage room was just as beautiful as the rest of the spa. For prenatal massages, Nimb has a special pillow that allows pregnant women to lay on their stomach, but I think it is intended more for the 2nd trimester. Since I was already well into my third trimester (about 37 weeks), I didn’t use the pillow and instead had most of the massage lying on my sides or back. The massage therapist was clearly experienced with pregnancy massages and frequently checked to make sure I was comfortable. The whole massage was wonderful!! My only tiny complaint would be that there were some times when I could hear voices coming from outside the massage room, but ultimately, I didn’t feel that it significantly affected the experience.
After the massage, I was directed back to the lounge, where there was a plate of refreshments for me: a ginger shot, rhubarb juice, different tea options, and some chocolates.
Overall, I looooooooooooooved this massage experience at Nimb!! It’s pricey, no doubt, but the whole experience was nothing short of luxurious. I would absolutely go back when I need to feel spoiled and pampered again–pregnant or not–and would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone.
