Surprise baby shower!
Baby showers aren’t much of a “thing” here in Denmark. In the US, it’s common to have 2-3 baby showers (maybe a couple with different groups of friends, one with colleagues, etc). It seems like they might be starting to catch on here, but they’re definitely not a standard or expected part of pregnancy. So I was not expecting to have a baby shower at all, especially since social gatherings have still been pretty limited due to Covid.
Buuuut… my sister-in-law and a few close friends organized a surprise baby shower for me a few weeks ago (with the help of my husband!)!! It was truly the best surprise and they did such an amazing job putting it all together. Here’s how it happened!
The day of the shower was a bank holiday, so my husband had the day off work. He suggested we go out for a drive to an area north of Copenhagen. So we did, and we were out for a couple of hours. When we came back home, I walked into our living room and was SHOCKED to see my SIL and 3 friends there (there were two more friends who helped plan and organize the whole thing but weren’t able to be there in person, sadly!).
They had also decorated our whole apartment to absolute perfection. I mean, looooook!
They also used baby clothes to decorate above the windows, which was *chef’s kiss*
Once I got over the shock, we had an amazing spread of sushi for lunch (the Danish health authority says that sushi is fine for pregnant women because of the safety regulations here — bless them).
After that, I opened presents. They knew that my husband and I had already bought most of what we needed for the baby, so they got a gift certificate for me to get a massage after the baby comes. Obviously I was THRILLED to receive this and can’t wait to use it!!
The next surprise was a video from my family in the US. One of my friends reached out to them to record it, which was so thoughtful and special since my parents and brother haven’t gotten to be involved with my pregnancy as much as we all wish they could’ve been.
We played a couple of games…
And enjoyed a delicious homemade lemon rosemary cake!!
And we hardly made a dent in the cake, so I got to enjoy it for days afterwards š
This shower was the SWEETEST surprise!! I’m still not over it. Can’t wait for our little guy to arrive and be just as loved and spoiled as I am by these amazing friends!!
